Minnesota's North shore is an amazingily beautiful and interesting place to visit. From the rocky shores on the lake, to the hiking trails and camping along the coast, it is a wonderful place to visit and explore.
Traveling to the North Shore of Minnesota starts from the city of Duluth.
Duluth is located on the shores of Lake Superior 150 miles north of the Twin Cities at the lower part of the "Arrow Head" of Minnesota.
As you travel up the North Shore, there are many places to park along the shoreline and watch the waves crash along the rocky beaches. There is access to the water or watch from above. Bring good hiking shoes and prepare to get wet.
Swimming in Lake Superior is not recommeded except for the very hardy and those who can handle cold water. Evening during the summer months, Lake Superior stays at temperature of 40 degrees. Hypothermia can set in very quickly if you are not careful.
As you leave the main city of Duluth Minnesota, you first come to the town of French River, Minnesota.
French River is a small community with only 12 full time residents and is primarily a tourist desitination.
