Teens play the Wii.

Video games have become part of everyday life. Today it's not uncommon to see people of all ages playing them across a variety of platforms. The games industry has become a heavyweight in the entertainment industry, often surpassing film and music in sales and profit. It's hard to believe that it all started 35 years ago with the Atari 2600. Back then video games were considered toys, fads, and novelties. Now it's hard to walk inside anyone's home and not find a video game console or handheld lurking about.

This site will guide you through many of the most successful video game machines released. This is not an end-all guide to every single piece of gaming history. This is a vertical slice of some of the biggest movers and shakers in the industry and how they came to be. You'll find brief histories of many of the most popular consoles released prior to 2000.

I hope you enjoy the trip down memory lane. For those of you with a gaming history you'll no doubt have favorite games you used to play. Some of you no doubt still game on a regular basis and may have new favorites. The interactive entertainment industry is fairly new when compared to the movies and music sectors, but video games often resonate with people in a profound way.

Instead of just sitting passively by and digesting the media as the director or musician intended, games allow a certain amount of freedom, exploration, sense of discovery, and puzzle solving that often isn't found anywhere else. For those of you who have never before played a video game, or perhaps have never enjoyed them, I hope you find the site informational and entertaining nonetheless. Thanks for taking the time to visit!
