As joint owners of Van Horn and Van Horn LLC "Benchmark Surveying", Les & Lisa Van Horn have over 60 years of experience put together. Les Started land surveying tn 1966 with McMahon Associates in Menasha, then went to work with the City of Appleton Engineering Department in 1968 and then with Rice & Urban Engineering (now OMNI Engineering) out of Appleton. During that time he practiced land surveying and mapping under the direct supervision of l2 professional land surveyors, 10 professional engineers and 5 architects, while working for the two different private engineering firms and the one govemmental agency over an eight-year period. In 1974I obtained a professional license to practice land surveying from the Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing, credential number 51237. Les was appointed in 1975 by the Brown County Executive and confirmed by the County Board to serve as the Brown County Surveyor and department head of the Survey Department. in 1986, Les was appointed by the County Executive to also serve as the Brown County Real Property Lister, and that office was incorporated into the Survey Department. The Real Property Lister is responsible for the identification and mapping of all real property within the county for taxation and other purposes. The Microfilm Lab, which was responsible for the archiving county records that included all of the real estate documents recorded with thq register of deeds, was also incorporated into the Survey Department along with the Abstract Listing office. which created a full abstract listing of all documents that affected land title and land tenure in Brown County. The Survey Department had 16 positions and a yearly operations budget of nearly 1 million dollars. Les directed the overall operations of the department and had two office managers both professional land surveyors, to assist in the nranagement of the departments operations. He also emploved 5 other professional land surveyors within the department to staff the duties Les retired from the position after 28 years.
Lisa graduated from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, with an Associates Degree in Civil Engineering/Public Works Construction, she was licensed as a professional land surveyor (S-2356) on April 17, 1997. National Society of Professional Surveyors. In 2010 she became aWisconsin representative to the National Board of Governors which she presently is still active in. Lisa is the curator of the the Foundations's Museum for the Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors Foundation. She is currently a Owner and partner of Van Horn & Van Horn LLC. Lisa is the GPS Consultant, Subcontractor for larger firms on a project basis.
