As said on the homepage, I am from Belvidere, Illinois, and I’ve lived there all my life. Belvidere is located right along the northern stateline of Illinois, to the east of Rockford and to the west of Chicago. It was a pretty small town before I was born, consisting of many farms and mom and pop stores. The main feature to Belvidere is the Chrysler plant. Now Belvidere has transformed so much. Belvidere has recently had to add another series of schools to accomodate for the population increases! | |
Back in 1967, Belvidere was hit by a huge F4 tornado. The story actually made it to the Weather Channel series, Storm Stories. The tornado hit at about 3 PM, right when high school students were getting out of school. The tornado hit the Chrysler plant, then went on to hit the high school directly. The tornado heavily damaged the school, and killed about 20 people. The picture to the left is one of the more well known pictures from the catastrophe. |
