My roots are strong
I was born to Kenneth and Jane Highman on September 23, 1978. My dad was the sixth out of eight children. He came from an era that emphasized work over education. My dad quit school when he was in the 10th grade and has worked every day of his life since then. I have never known my dad to work less than 50 hours a week. It makes me sad sometimes to see a man work so hard and still have to struggle to make ends meet. I admire my dad’s work ethic and hope that one day I can be at least one half of the man he is.
My mom was the third daughter out of three. She too did not finish high school but did however, receive her GED. My mom worked a lot of different jobs as I was growing up. I have always been closest with my mom and I love her with all my heart. It is actually my mom that inspires me to be a success some day. She has never wavered on her thoughts of me becoming something great. I have gone through many struggles in my life but my mom has always been the constant. Someday when my mother’s time has gone I don’t exactly know how I will handle it. I am sure of this; with the love and support I have received from her, my wife, and daughter I will succeed in accomplishing my goals.
The true driving force behind my perseverance and determination though is my wife Brandi. Without her I don’t believe that I would be even close to the point I am today. She has been the support system that drives me every step of the way. She believes in me. She knows in her heart of hearts that I will succeed in everything that I aspire to do. Sometimes it is hard to explain in words the way you feel about someone or something. That is how I feel about my wife. There is no other adjective that I can use to describe what she means to me other than life force. I am so grateful to have her as part of my life. I only hope that I will succeed at my hopes and dreams so that I can give her the opportunity to enjoy some well deserved time off in the next few years.
