Concentrating Solar Power
What would happen if you had a mirror that reflected sunlight to a very specific place? That specific spot would have a lot of concentrated energy from the sun, correct?
According to Solar Energy Industries Association, concentrated solar power uses mirror to concentrate the sun’s energy to drive traditional steam turbines that create electricity. The thermal energy produced in a Concentrated Solar Power Plant (CSP) can be stored and used to produce electricity when needed, day or night.
A power tower is usually centrally located among the mirrors to collect the thermal energy into a receiver tube that transfers the high temperature oils through a heat exchanger to heat water and produce steam. The steam can then generate the turbines to create electricity.
