Heating & Cooling with Solar Energy

According to the Solar Energy Industry Association, another type of technology is solar heating and cooling, which collects the thermal energy from the sun to provide things like hot water, space heating, or cooling to residential or industrial needs. Things as simple as creating sky lights in a building would not only add light to an area, but also provide the heat from the sun to that room. Think of all the times you have walked by a well-lit area. Was it warmer in that spot, than away from it? Most likely, it was. This is a way we can capture the thermal energy of the sun.
We can also capture the thermal energy by allowing it to heat up water that we need to use. This video to the left by Florida Solar Design Group explains one way this can be achieved with a different type of panel being used. By using this method, you are not using any gas or electricity to heat the water.
