Installing a 3-way switch at home

Now that everything is installed you want to test the circuit to ensure that you light and switches are going to work properly. Re-energize the circuit if the breaker does not pop off imediatly is a good sign. Now go and check the light switches flip the first won to see if the light turns on or off depending on the way the switches where flipped before you re-energized the circuit. If the light does nothing take your multimeter and test for voltage at the switch. If present flip the second switch to see if the light reacts. If the light reacts there are just some crossed wires which will probably be your traveler wires the two that do not touch the black screws on the switch. De-energize the circuit switch the wires at on of the switches and retest. After double checking all conections the light should be working properly.
